Waiter : Are you ready to order? 주문 하시겠습니까?

Kate : Oh, I haven't decided yet. Well, what's good here?

아직 결정하지 못했는데, 여기서 잘하는 음식이 뭐죠?

Waiter : Our specialty is grilled salmon with herb sauce.

저희 식당의 특별메뉴는 허브 소스를 곁들인 연어구이입니다.

Kate : It does sound delicious. I'll have it. 맛있을 것 같네요. 그걸로 할게요.

Tim : And I'll have the same. 저도 같은 걸로 주세요.


Waitress : May I take your order,sir? 뭘 주문하시겠습니까?
Tim : Sure. What's good here? 이 집에서 잘 하는 음식이 뭡니까?

Waitress : French fries or a green salad. 프렌치 프라이즈나 야채 샐러드입니다.


Tim : May I have the menu, please? 메뉴 좀 주시겠습니까?

Waiter : Yes, Here you are. Would you like to order now? 예, 여기 있습니다. 주문하시겠어요?

Tim : Is there any special menu for today? 오늘의 특별 요리가 있습니까?

Waiter : Today's special is grilled turkey. 오늘의 특별 요리는 칠면조 구이입니다.

Tim : I'll have it, please. 그걸로 먹겠어요. 주세요.

Waiter : Would you care for anything to drink? 마실 것은 어떻게 할까요?

Tim : I'd like a draft beer. 생맥주가 좋겠습니다.

Waiter : Which would you like for dessert, coffee or tea?

디저트는 커피와 홍차 중 어느 것으로 하겠습니까?

Tim : I'll just have coffee. 커피로 주세요.

Mariah : I thought you're going to meet me for dinner at seven.

7시에 저녁먹기 위해 만나기로 했잖아.

Ross : I can't understand you. Your voice is breaking up.

무슨 소린지 모르겠어. 니 목소리가 끊겨.

Call me in a few minutes. I'm in the subway. 잠시 후 전화해. 지금 지하철에 있거든.

Mariah : Forget it. You always do this. Don't call me anymore.

됐네. 너는 항상 그런식이야. 더 이상 나한테 전화하지 마.




Would you get that phone?




* get the door / phone = (spoken) to answer the door, a telephone

* answer the phone / door = to pick up the telephone when it rings or go to the door when someone calls


Ross : Would you get that phone, please? 전화 좀 받아 줄래요?

Mariah : Sure. Hello. 물론이죠. 여보세요.

Kate : Hello. Did Mr. Ahn come in? 여보세요, 미스터 안씨 들어 오셨나요?

Mariah : I'll have to check. Hold on. 알아볼게요. 기다려 주세요.

Kate : O.K. 네.

Mariah : He's not here. Try again about noon, please.

안 계시는데요. 정오쯤에 다시 걸어 보세요.


Tim : The phone is ringing. Will you answer the phone? 전화 왔어. 전화 좀 받아 줄래?
Kate : OK, I'll get it. Hello, this is K&T travel agency. What can I do for you?

알았어, 내가 받을게. 여보세요, K&T 여행사입니다. 무엇을 도와 드릴까요?

Tim : Hi, I'm calling to get some information about a trip to Europe.

네, 유럽여행에 대한 정보를 얻고 싶어서요.


Kate : Do you want me to get it? 제가 받을까요?
Tim : It's Ok. Hello? 됐어. 여보세요?

Tim : You want to get it? 전화 좀 받아라.
Kate : I'll get it. 내가 받을게요.


Kate : Hey, call for you. 야, 전화.
Mariah : Thank you, sis. I'll get it. 고마워, 언니. 받을게.


eg) Can you get the door for me? I'm in the bath. 내 대신 문 좀 열어줄래? 난 목욕중이거든.





I'm not in the mood



* be/feel in the mood = to want to do something or feel that you would enjoy doing something

Tim : How about going to a museum or something? 박물관 같은 곳이나 가는 게 어때?

Kate : No, I'm not really in the mood for anything like that.

아냐. 난 전혀 그런 걸 하고 싶은 기분이 아냐.



Tim : You'd better stay away from Ross. He's not in the mood now.

로스에게 가까이 가지 않는 게 좋겠어. 걘 지금 기분이 좋지 않아.

Karen : Yeah, I guess so. 그래. 난 대충 짐작하겠어.


eg) I don't want to talk about it now. I'm not in the mood.

난 지금 그 이야기를 하고 싶지 않아. 그럴 기분이 아니거든.


eg) I was in no mood to argue any more. 난 더 이상 논쟁하고 싶은 기분이 아니였어.





Did you shop around?




* shop around = to compare the price and quality of different things before you decide which to buy


Ross : You got a brand-new car. How much did you pay for it? 새 차 샀네? 얼마 줬니?

Tim : Twenty thousand dollars. 2만 달러.

Ross : That much? Did you shop around? 그렇게 비싸게? 여기저기 가격 좀 알아봤어?


Ross : I got this watch for $200. 이 시계 200달러 주고 샀어.

Karen : Did you shop around? I'm afraid you paid too much.

여러 군데 다녀 봤어. 너무 비싸게 주고 산 것 같은데?

Ross : Do you think so? 그렇게 생각해?

Karen : Yes. Do comparison shopping when you buy big-ticket items.

응. 비싼 물건 살 때는 여기저기 다니면서 가격비교를 해보고 사야지.


Tim : How much did you par for it? 그거 얼마주고 샀냐?

Ross : Sixty-five dollars including tax. 세금 포함해서 65달러 주고 샀어.

Tim : That's too steep. Why didn't you shop around for a bargain?

너무 비싼데. 더 싼 것 좀 찾아보지 그랬어?

Ross : I thought it was a good buy. 난 싸게 샀다고 생각했는데.

Tim : No way. It was a rip-off. 절대 아냐. 너 바가지 썼어.
