Tim : I have so much work that I don't have time to catch my breath.

Ross : Is there anything I can help you with? 내가 도와줄 수 있는 일이 있어?

Ross : Yeah, I got tied up with a client, but she just left. So, I'm on my way!

그렇겠지. 손님한테 붙들려 있는 바람에. 하지만 방금 떠났어. 그래서 지금 막 나가는 중이야.

Tim : O.K, Ross. Be carful in the traffic. I'd rather be late than have you in the hospital.

알았어, 로스. 차 조심해. 병원에 입원하는 것보다 차라리 늦는게 나을거야.

I'm swamped



* swamp 는 [바빠서 꼼짝달싹 할 수 없다]는 표현으로 주로 수동태로 쓴다...


* swamp = to suddenly give someone a lot of work, problems etc to deal with


Kate : I'm swamped at work. I have had to stay late three times this week.

직장에서 일이 너무 바빠요. 이번주에 세번이나 야근을 해야 했다구요.

Ross : What makes you so busy? 뭐 때문에 그렇게 바쁜거야?

Kate : We have a deadline that we are trying to meet. 마감날짜를 맞추려고 그래요.

We have to work overtime until it is finished. I can't believe my job!

일을 끝마칠 때까지 야근을 해야해요. 내가 이런 일을 하게 될 줄이야!


Tim : We just got our pictures back from the picnic. Do you want to take a look at them?
소풍갔던 사진 나왔어. 사진들 볼래?

Ross : Yes, but I can't right now. I'm swamped with reports.

그래. 하지만 지금 당장은 안돼. 리포트때문에 바쁘거든.

Tim : I'll leave them on your desk and you can give them back when you're done with them.

니 책상에 사진들 놓고 갈게. 다 보고 돌려주면 돼.

신문에 광고를 낸 이후로 걸려오는 전화들 때문에 바빠 죽겠다.

* be up to your ears in work = to have a lot of work


Tim : How are things going with the hiring? 직원 채용에 관한 일은 어떻게 되어 가나요?

Mariah : Pretty good, but I'm up to my ears in resumes.

정말 잘 되어가요. 하지만 이력서가 산더미처럼 쌓여서 정신없이 바빠요.



Kate : I'm giving a housewarming tomorrow evening. Would you like to come?
낼 저녁 집들이 하려고 하는데 올 수 있어?

Ross : Yes, but I can't. I'm up to my ears in work.

가고 싶지만, 안되겠어. 일이 산더미처럼 쌓여서.
